If you enjoy good food and drink, you'll love Gibraltar's cafe society and dining al fresco. There is an amazing choice of places to eat and drink. Danish, Indian, French, Moroccan, English, Spanish, Peking and Szechuan are just some of the options on the menus of Gibraltar's first class restaurants.
Nightlife
Equally, there is no shortage of places to go in the evening. The hotel cocktail bars offer comfortable and sophisticated surroundings for a quiet drink or, for a more informal evening, almost every street in town has wine bars and lively cosmopolitan pubs. Later you might dance into the small hours at one of Gibraltar's night-clubs or enjoy a flutter at the Casino.
Shop Around The Rock
Gibraltar is a duty-free shopper's paradise and still continues to offer duty free goods despite changes elsewhere in Europe. Prices at the airport, notably for tobacco and spirits, are among the least expensive in the world. Shops are normally open by 10.00 a.m. and stay open all day through to 7.30 p.m. on weekdays, many close Saturday afternoon, and most, if not all, close Sunday.Main Street, Gibraltar's principal shopping thoroughfare, runs almost the length of town and the shops are filled with goods of all kinds at attractive prices. Turn off Main Street into the little lanes and alleys and there are even more shops. Items to look out for include jewellery, both precious and semi-precious, fine glassware and porcelain, leather goods, perfumes, silks and cashmere. At the Gibraltar Crystal Factory you can see glassware being made. Among the 'ohardware' there are computers, cameras of all kinds, watches, optical equipment and electrical goods including the latest TV's, radios and hi-fi's. On expensive items a little gentle haggling will not be taken amiss. If you are looking for souvenirs to take home as presents you will find plenty of local handmade items.
Casemates
Casemates Square, positioned at the end of Main Street in the heart of Gibraltar's shopping district, was once the site of public executions. It is now filled with fashionable outdoor cafes, boutiques, bars, a Tourist Information Centre and the Gibraltar Crystal Factory. Street performers, music and military bands entertain visitors here during the summer months.
